About Community Advocate Training

This comprehensive training will provide foundational knowledge about intimate partner violence, anti-violence work, and Steps to End Domestic Violence’s programs and services. It will give you practical tools to support those experiencing domestic violence in your life and community. During the training, we will explore different elements of power and control-based violence and we will offer discussion and education on the intersections of domestic violence, racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, xenophobia, and poverty.

This 20-hour training consists of 5 hours of self-paced pre-work, followed by 3 in-person sessions.

Training will include:

- Domestic Violence 101

- The empowerment model: what it is and how to apply it when working with survivors

- Tools and resources to support community members experiencing domestic violence

- The 6 Core Principles of Social Change Advocacy

-Steps to End Domestic Violence agency and program overviews

At the end of this training, you will feel more prepared to support survivors of intimate partner violence in your community. CAT also fulfills the 20-hour training requirement for Vermont’s Victim and Crisis Worker Privilege.
